AS MODULES
MODULE 1: The Emergence of the Super-Powers and the New World Order, 1900 – 1962. This includes the impact of World Wars 1 and 2, the development of the Cold War and the relationship of the new and developing nations with the former colonial powers.
MODULE 2: Britain 1929 – 51. This includes the Great Depression, why Britain entered World War 2 and the impact that the war had on society.
MODULE 3: Course essays based on Kenya and Algeria.
A2 MODULES
MODULE 4: Aspects of European and World History, 1900 to the present day. This includes the Central and Eastern European powers and an in-depth study of Vietnam.
MODULES 5: Britain, 1951 – 1997, this includes detailed study of the swinging sixties, the
government of Margaret Thatcher and the Falklands War.
MODULE 6: Coursework, based on a topic of your choosing.
METHODS OF STUDY
You will use a variety of teaching and learning styles, including, note making, essay writing, research using the College library and internet, full class and small group discussion.
METHODS OF ASSESSMENT
The course is modular. At AS you will have two written exams of 1 hour 30 minutes and complete two course essays in class.
At A2 you will have two written exams of 1 hour 30 minutes and complete coursework over a period from September to April in year 13.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
It is not essential to have studied history at GCSE but it will be beneficial as background knowledge will be useful. Students should be able to write logically and coherently, enjoy reading and have a keen interest in history. If students have studied history, a grade C would normally be expected.
