Art & Design Fine Art

Examining Board – Edexcel

Subject Content

The course will allow students to develop skills and ideas in greater depth and breadth and will encourage them to experiment and explore ideas in a wide range of technologies, and materials, and enjoy engaging in a truly creative process. They will need to develop independent study skills, enjoy researching and gathering visual information, be keen to discuss their work and that of others, and above all enjoy taking risks!

Methods of Study

You will explore and respond to a theme of your choice. You will generate, research and develop ideas, as well as developing the skills of analysis to help you to analyse both your own and the work of others. In addition to completing the 8 hour examination work (at AS level) and the 12 hour examination work (at A2 level), you will produce preparatory work that shows the development of your final piece in both instances. The coursework unit incorporates two linked elements – practical work and a written personal study.
