Ghana Report so far:
After leaving Rainford at 6am on Thursday 15th July, we arrived safely in Accra on Thursday night. Spent a night in the capital city before heading to Kumasi on Friday Morning at 5am. We arrived at Gifty's house at 12noon - she soon became our 'adopted' mother and is taking good care of us!
After a good night's sleep, the Project's Abroad staff took us sight seeing around Kumasi. Anthony and Gaby have been excellent and have taken care of our every need. We are quickly learning the Ghanaian culture and are adapting to the African way of life - we just need to master how to carry heavy loads on our heads! It's an amazing place here with lots going on - everything takes place at the roadside where everything is made and sold in open metal shelters.
We've completed a lot of work on the school, making very good progress and are currently ahead of schedule. The effort from our students has been fantastic. We started painting on Sunday and as you can see from the photos we've really brightened the place up. The Ghanaian students were really pleased when they arrived at school on Monday and have loved having us there. Our students carried on painting today but Dave and Sarah were put to use as classroom teachers.
We have also been to work in the local orphanage yesterday afternoon. We cared for children from new born to 16 years old. It was very moving but the children were very loving and we were soon playing and laughing together.
Anyway must dash - we've been up since 5.30am to go tree planting at the children's home and then back to school after to finish the painting.
Everyone's healthy and happy.
Cheers
Sarah Byrne and Dave Eccles
