A level History consists of four modules, two at AS and two at A2. Three of the units are externally assessed and the historical enquiry is internally assessed by College.
Methods of Study
You will use a variety of teaching and learning styles, including note making, essay writing, research using the College library and internet, full class and small group discussion. Your personal investigation will require you to undertake independent research.

AS Modules
MODULE 1 - Russia and Germany, 1871-1914
This unit provides an overview of the development of Imperial Germany and Tsarist Russia and the relationships between them. It is divided into three sections:
- Germany 1871-1914
- Russia 1881-1914
- International Relations
- Unit 1 - 1 x 1 hour 15 minute exam
MODULE 2 - A Sixties Social Revolution? British Society, 1959-1975
- Unit 2 - 1 x 1 hour 30 minute exam
A2 Modules
MODULE 3 - Aspects of International Relations
- Unit 3 – 1 x 1 hour 30 minute exam
MODULE 4 - Historical Enquiry
- Unit 4 – Historical Investigation
Entry Requirements
It is not essential to have studied History at GCSE but it will be beneficial as background knowledge will be useful. Much of the course content will be new but if you have studied History at GCSE, a grade C will be expected. Students should be expected to write logically and coherently, enjoy reading and have a keen interest in the past and current affairs.
