Welcome to our Ghana Care in the Community Project!
'Taking the opportunity to make a difference'
The Ghana Care in the Community Project was established as part of Projects Abroad, an organisation dedicated to enriching the lives of deprived children in low income areas abroad. It was designed to give students aged sixteen to nineteen a chance to make a difference.
In September, nine Rainford College students took this opportunity to make a difference. We are Jonathan, Katya, Laura, Hannah, Kate, Becky, Amy, Amy and Lottie and we are all hoping to go to the town of Accra, Ghana in the middle of July.
Whilst there, we plan to help re-build local orphanges, re-paint dilapidated buildings and help educate the local community. For this, we have to raise £1,800 each.
Since September,we have been eagerly striving to reach our goal of £8,000 by organising such activities as cake sales, car washes, bag packing, College Performance Evenings and more. These activities have helped towards reaching our goal, but we still have much more to do if we are able to help the lives of underprivileged children in Ghana.
The Care in the Community Project are planning many future events to reach our goal, and would like to thank everyone who has attended previous events for their very kind contributions.

Target to Raise: £8,000
Raised so far: £4,200
Sponsored Bike Ride:
On Monday 31st May, ten wonderful volunteers agreed to get out their bicycles and cycle from Rainford College, to Southport, and back in aid of the Ghana Care in the Community Project, who managed to raise a fantastic £370 in sponsorship for this event! The participants of the project are very grateful to these cyclists for helping us:
- Andrew
- Ian
- Pierre
- Ben
- Chris
- Simon
- Rob
- Tom
- Mark
- Piers
With their help, we have managed to bring our total to £4,200!
This is going to the cost of travel for all nine of the people involved; considering it costs around £1,900 each, we’ve a long way to go yet! Thanks once again to everyone involved in the sponsored bike ride!
Future Activities:
For future events, the Project has arranged a car wash, and yet more cake sales! Keep your eyes open for Care in the Community events at Rainford,
