Examining Board: AQA
Subject Content
A Level General Studies is compulsory for all students and consists of 4 modules, two at AS and two at A2. All units are exam based and students rely on independent study skills to prepare for the assessments as there are no timetabled lessons. However, students attend several mandatory study skills sessions and a number of support sessions are offered throughout the academic year. Current affairs and debating topical issues will also be the focus of Registration periods throughout the week, facilitated by the Learning Supervisor, in order to broaden students’ general knowledge.
Methods of Study
Through primarily independent study and self-directed learning activities, students will focus on the two module topics (which are the same for both AS and A2), ‘Science and Society’ and ‘Culture and Society’. Students will acquire and demonstrate knowledge on arts, culture, social studies, economics, science, politics and current affairs in general.
Methods of Assessment
AS and A2 each consist of two units and make up 50% of the total award:-
- Unit 1:Culture and Society (AS): 1hr 30 examination
- Unit 2: Science and Society (AS): 1hr 30 examination
- Unit 3: Culture and Society (A2): 2hr examination
